Growing bones deserve specialist care

A child's bones, joints and muscles are still growing — which is exactly why they need care built for children, not scaled-down adult treatment. From a broken arm to a worried question about the way your child walks, our paediatric orthopaedic care diagnoses and treats growing bodies with a gentle, reassuring hand.

What it's for

Children aren't small adults

Paediatric orthopaedics is the specialist care of children's bones, joints, muscles and the way they move and grow. A child's growing skeleton behaves very differently to an adult's — it heals faster, but it can also be shaped by injury and by conditions that only matter while a body is still developing.

That's why growth plates, gait, alignment and posture all need an eye trained specifically on children. Many concerns settle naturally with time and reassurance; others benefit from early treatment to keep growth on track. Knowing which is which is the heart of what we do.

And with X-ray on-site, worrying questions often get calm, clear answers the same visit.

Care for every age

From newborn hip checks to teenage sports injuries

Orthopaedic concerns change with every stage of childhood, so we tailor assessment and treatment to exactly where your child is.

Babies

Newborn hip checks for dysplasia, clubfoot, congenital limb differences and the early concerns best picked up in the first months.

Toddlers

Bow legs, in-toeing, toe walking and first steps — reassurance where it's normal development, early treatment where it isn't.

School-aged children

Fractures, growing pains, flat feet, limping and posture concerns through the busy, active primary-school years.

Adolescents

Sports injuries, knee and back pain, scoliosis monitoring and overuse problems as bodies grow quickly and stay active.

Our approach

Reassurance first, treatment when it counts

Good paediatric orthopaedics knows when to act and when to reassure. We treat the concern that needs it and calm the worry that doesn't — always with your child's growth in mind.

A suspected broken bone or a fall that won't settle
Limping, or refusing to bear weight
In-toeing, out-toeing or an unusual walking pattern
Bow legs or knock knees you're worried about
Persistent joint pain, swelling or stiffness

Paediatric orthopaedics, answered

Do I need a referral to see a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon?
No referral is needed. You can book an appointment directly for any concern about your child's bones, joints or movement — whether it's an injury or something you've noticed over time.
My child has flat feet / in-toeing — is that a problem?
Often not. Flat feet, in-toeing and bow legs are a normal part of development for many children and settle on their own. A specialist assessment tells you whether it's something to simply keep an eye on, or something worth treating.
Can you X-ray a suspected fracture in the same visit?
Yes. With X-ray on-site, a suspected broken bone can usually be confirmed and explained during your visit — so treatment can start straight away without an anxious wait or a second trip.
Will my child need surgery?
Most children's orthopaedic problems are treated without surgery — with casts, bracing, monitoring or simply time and reassurance. Where a procedure is genuinely the best option, we explain everything clearly and support your family throughout.
What are growing pains, and should I worry?
Growing pains are common, harmless aches — often in the legs and in the evening — that don't affect how a child moves or plays. If pain is persistent, one-sided, causes a limp or disturbs daily life, it's worth having it checked.
Is a paediatric orthopaedic visit covered by insurance?
Cover varies by policy. Our team is happy to help you understand what your plan includes and to assist with any claim.
