What it's for

ENT problems look different in children

Paediatric otolaryngology is a specialised field focused on the ear, nose and throat conditions of childhood. Children aren't small adults — their ENT problems present differently, affect a growing body, and need diagnostic tools and treatments made for young patients.

That's why specialist care matters. Our paediatric ENT service recognises the developmental differences at each age and tailors treatment accordingly — using child-specific assessments, advanced medical care and, only where truly needed, gentle surgical procedures.

The goal is always the same: healthy hearing, easy breathing, restful sleep and confident speech.

Diagnosis & testing

Child-friendly tests, accurate answers

Getting the diagnosis right is everything. We use assessments designed for children, in a comfortable environment that keeps them at ease.

Hearing

Hearing tests & screening

Age-appropriate auditory screening to detect hearing loss early — because hearing underpins speech, learning and confidence.

Swallowing

Swallowing assessments

Careful evaluation of feeding and swallowing difficulties in babies and young children, to find and treat the cause.

Endoscopy

Endoscopic evaluations

Gentle, child-friendly endoscopic examinations of the nose and throat to see clearly what's going on.

Airway

Laryngoscopy & bronchoscopy

Lighted-scope procedures to examine the larynx and airways in children with breathing or swallowing difficulties.

Care for every age

From a newborn's first check to the teenage years

ENT conditions affect development differently at each stage, so we tailor assessment and treatment to exactly where your child is.

Newborns

From birth, we monitor for hearing, breathing and feeding concerns — including congenital conditions that are best caught early.

Toddlers & young children

The peak years for ear infections, glue ear and enlarged tonsils and adenoids — assessed and treated to protect speech and sleep.

School-aged children

Recurrent infections, hearing concerns and sinus or breathing problems that can affect learning, behaviour and confidence at school.

Adolescents

Sinus, voice, sleep and airway concerns through the teenage years, with care that respects a growing young person's needs.

Good to know

Paediatric ENT, answered

Do I need a referral for my child to see an ENT specialist?
No referral is needed. You can book a paediatric ENT appointment directly for any ear, nose or throat concern — whether it's recurrent infections, snoring, hearing worries or something new.
My child keeps getting ear infections — is that normal?
Ear infections are very common in young children, but frequent or recurrent ones are worth checking. Repeated infections and 'glue ear' can affect hearing at an important age, so an ENT assessment helps protect speech and learning.
When do tonsils or adenoids need to come out?
Not always — many children are managed without surgery. We consider it when enlarged tonsils or adenoids cause repeated infections, disturbed sleep or breathing problems. We always try medical treatment first and only recommend surgery when it's genuinely the best option.
How do you test a young child's hearing?
We use age-appropriate hearing tests and auditory screening designed for children — gentle, play-based where possible, and carried out in a comfortable, child-friendly environment.
Will my child need surgery?
Most children's ENT problems are treated without surgery. Where a procedure is needed, we explain everything clearly, keep it as gentle as possible, and support your family through preparation, the day itself and recovery.
Is a paediatric ENT visit covered by insurance?
Cover varies by policy. Our team is happy to help you understand what your plan includes and to assist with any claim.
